January 2010 Newsletter
Happy New Year!
Well, here we are at the beginning of 2010. Things are shaping up for us to have a really good year of fishing. Our club shows promise of increased participation and better turnouts at the events. There are many things that we need to get lined out for this year to be the best.
Thanks to those who were able to attend the meeting on January 5. As some of you might know , Dave Evans has stepped down as club president and has been replaced with Jeff Gibson who promises to keep us going and to participate a lot more this year. We owe Dave a big thank you for stepping up last year and trying to keep us going during a crazy year.
It has been determined that Eddie, Chris, Bret, and myself will be trying to put together the remainder of the tournament schedule for this year. So far we have our first open scheduled for May 1 at Milner so let's start gathering sponsors and make this one of our best opens yet. We have also scheduled our second open for August 7 on Massacre Rocks. We will run this tournament exactly like last year where we weigh in at noon and have lunch and a Calcutta then re-launch and fish until sundown. It was a blast last year and hope we can make it bigger this year. We decided to hold 4 other club events aside from the open and have tentatively chosen CJ Strike, Twin Lakes, Massacre Rocks, and either Walcott or American Falls as our bodies of water. If you have any feedback, please feel free to contact one of us to give us your opinion.
Our club has been a little behind the last few years in the areas of conservation and youth. I'm not real sure what there is for us to do as far as conservation goes but I do have something for youth. 2 years ago, Jennifer Jackson from Idaho Fish and Game approached me and asked if we would like to help them out with some youth events. I told her that Eagle Rock would love to help and it was kinda left at that. Well I was able to contact her again today and she was extremely excited to hear from me and said that there are tons of things that they have going on this year with the youth that they would like our help with. Guys this a great way to show the public that we are a great club for anyone to join and I feel we need to help them out with their projects especially if we are going to claim that we support our youth in the sport of fishing. If anyone has any conservation ideas, feel free to bring them forward.
We also decided to not pursue a banquet this year because of the crazy year we had last year. We will still give out awards for Angler of the Year and Sportsman of the Year. I will be handing out ballots for Sportsman of the Year at the next meeting.
Lastly, we need to do everything in our power to try to increase membership and participation for our club. If you are planning on fishing an event by yourself, bring someone new and introduce them to bass fishing. That is how the sport grows. We can't sit around and complain that participation and membership sucks when we aren't doing much to promote it. I know for a fact that we are going to be gaining at least 5 new members this year and possibly more. Guys we have the capability to become one of the top clubs in Idaho if we play our cards right.
We are all part of an elite group of sportsman and we need to stick together and help the sport grow if we want to be able to continue doing what we are doing. With that, I hope to see you all next month so we can finalize our tournament schedule and get this club rolling again. Thanks again and Happy Fishing!
