Eagle Rock Bassmasters

July 2006 Newsletter

The June meeting minutes were approved.

Treasurer: Warren reported on the bank account status, there were no changes from last month, since the monies from the last 2 tournaments has not been deposited yet. Again the audit had to be postponed – we are hoping to get it completed by the next meeting.

Conservation: Eddie will be posting the bass signs at Gifford Springs. A gentleman from the Fish & Game was present at the weigh in at Massacre Rocks, and talked with us afterwards about some of the proposals that are in the works for changes at Massacre Rocks, i.e. fish limits etc., also about the monitoring of the radio fish.

Youth: Casting for kids was held last Saturday at Sportsman’s Warehouse during the “screaming at the Tetons” expo, we had a lot of children test their fishing skills, however we only had 4 kids that were interested in the competition aspect of it, we had a tied score for first place between 2 boys: Logan and Jeffrey Gibson, we had a cast off between the two and after approximately 5 casts, Jeffrey ended up being the winner – congratulations.

Tournament: At Walcott this past weekend we had an interesting event happen – we had 2 people that were tied for big fish (until Eddie weighed in his fish), but this has raised a question that cannot be answered in our rules – what happens if there is a tie?, should the monies be split?, or the longest fish wins or what? Think about this – and bring your ideas to the next meeting and we will vote on it. We had a pretty good turn out for the Walcott tournament on Sunday July 9 – Thanks to everybody who attended and congratulations to all the winners:

Pro: Corey took first with 10.82 lbs, Chris took second with 10.32 lbs, Eddie took big fish with 3.92 lbs.

Amateur: Jeffrey Gibson took first with 4.64 lbs, Charma took second with 3.60 lb, Charma took big fish with 2.44 lbs.

Our next tournament is August 5th at Ririe – it is a 3 man event – so get your team together – there will be a BBQ at the Cooke’s following the tournament – “potluck” bring a dish to pass, your own refreshments and your own folding chair – hope to see you ALL there.

New Business: The open is fast approaching (September) a recommendation was made to have the club spend $250.00 to purchase a “nice” rod and reel and hold a separate raffle as a fund raiser, this would be open to anyone who would like to buy a ticket and presale will be done a week or two before the open by the club members (winner need not be present) – a unanimous vote was taken. Brant will contact his brother about signs for the open with all the sponsors listed – so start rounding up those sponsors.

FLW vs. B.A.S.S. vs. Independent: The only reason we are affiliated with B.A.S.S. is for the insurance, however we found out the insurance ONLY covers the people who are actual BASS members – not the whole club. The cost for the club to purchase its own insurance is pretty close to what it would be for ALL club members to become BASS or FLW members – so it was discussed that maybe we should be independent and each club member is responsible for their own insurance, and also have to sign a waiver of liability. Chris works with some lawyers and will investigate the cost to have the waiver drawn up, he will report on it at the next meeting.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.
