Eagle Rock Bassmasters
July 2005 Newsletter
Well it looks like summer finally found us and can you believe it the year is half over already.
The attendance at the meetings appears to be diminishing; we encourage everybody to attend so your voice can be heard. We are aware that not everybody likes Tom’s; we are working on a solution.
We had Dave Treuscher and Richard Scully from the Department of Fish and Game give a presentation on the study being performed on the bass population from American Falls to Walcott. Data is being collected for all areas of the Snake River from the dam at American Falls reservoir downstream to the upper end of Walcott. The goals they hope to complete within the next year are: complete the biological evaluation and an angler’s satisfaction survey. The data they are collecting is composed of: population data, age and growth rates, proportional stock densities, angler harvest rates, total annual mortality, spawning and migration habits. They have recently tagged 200 fish, and placed radio tags (floy tags) in others to track movements. The tagging was done in various spots up and down the river. There will be fliers posted at the boat docks, with information on what to do if you catch a tagged fish. The presentation is on our web site.
The June meeting minutes were read and approved.
Warren reported on the bank account status.
We presented awards and fishing poles to our casting for kids winners: Christian Stewart – under age 7, Daylen Dameran – age 7-10 and Michael Sanders – age 11-14. Eagle Rock will be sponsoring Daylen and Michael for the finals in Boise. Winners for Snake River Valley bass club were Cristian Deleon – age 7-10 and Melanie Moore – age 11-14.
We welcomed 2 guests tonight: Eddie Delonas (father of Eddie) and Johns Delonas (Eddie’s brother).
Conservation: Eddie is working on the signs at Massacre rocks and also at Gifford.
Federation: The second qualifier will be held at the end of the month at Walcott as well as a casting event on the 23rd at Walcott.
Tournaments; We have a tournament Saturday July 9 at Walcott and Snake River has one on Sunday July 10 at Massacre rocks and July 31st at Walcott.
New Business;
A motion was made to accept the code of conduct as it is written, there was a second and the vote was unanimous in favor to accept.
A motion was made to vote on a new vice-president – Jeff Gibson has declined the nomination, so Brant Davis was voted in unanimously. Congratulations to Brant!!
A motion was made to elect a tournament committee; the committee is to be comprised of one club officer and 2 club members. A motion was made to have Brant as the club officer, Eddie Delonas and Jeff Gibson as the club members – the vote was unanimous.
Reminder: The open is in 2 months Sept 10th at Milner, everybody needs to start thinking about and making arrangements for prize donations. A motion was made for 80% pay out and entry fees to remain the same; $100.00, $25.00 for big fish, and options of $25.00, $50.00 and $100.00 – the vote was unanimous. A motion was made for a 7 fish limit, and to have OFF LIMITS from 12:00am Tuesday morning Sept 6th until tournament launch Saturday morning – the vote was unanimous. A motion was made by Jeff G. to initiate a separate “hardship” pot to go to the person with the smallest “legal” size fish (providing they have caught the 7 fish limit), this money will be separate from the tournament fees and will be donated – vote was unanimous. A motion was made to have the tournament committee purchase a rod and reel ($250.00 limit) for a separate raffle – vote was unanimous. Raffle tickets will remain the same 6 for $5.00 and $5.00 each for the rod and reel.
Just a reminder to ALL club members that if you are NOT fishing the open we need your assistance and support to help things run smoothly.
A motion was raised that we initiate a raffle at each club meeting like Snake River valley has. The club would purchase multiple items (based on a specific dollar amount) for each meeting and each club member would bring in a small item, we would then sell tickets at each meeting, to help boost up the clubs finds – please think about this and we will vote on it at the August meeting.
There being no further business – the meeting was adjourned.
